Donald Kirkegaard was appointed to the Board of Education in December 2006. The case that came to be known as Brown v. Board of Education was actually the name given to five separate cases that were heard by the U.S. Supreme Court concerning the issue of segregation in public schools. All regular Board of Education meetings are held on the first and third Mondays at 7 p.m. in the board room at the McKnight School Service Center located at 417 Fifth Street, Aurora, IL 60505.
The National School Boards Association (NSBA) was founded in 1940 as a not-for-profit organization to assist state school boards associations in their efforts to support public education and local school board governance. The Education Committee, chaired by David Dietze assists in setting educational policies and in guiding district curriculum and programs.
The State Board conducts public meetings in Trenton on the first Wednesday of each month. These goals and the policies to implement them include equality of educational opportunity and quality instruction. All Board of Education meetings and all Board committee meetings are open to the public.
The State Board Office publishes an agenda at /education/sboe/meetings/agenda.shtml in advance of each meeting to notify the public of the items that the State Board will be considering. As trustees of school property, the Board may receive and control property purchased or transferred to it for the benefit of the public schools.
Sue Aguilar, Sioux Falls, was appointed to the Board of Education in January 2016. The Saline Board of Education meets the second and fourth Tuesday of each month except July, August and December. Dr. Schallenkamp served on the Higher Learning Commission Board of Directors and participated in more than 30 site visits for accreditation reviews.
