Since its establishment in 1972, The Office of Bilingual Education ( OBE ) has pursued a programmatic training, research, development, and dissemination agenda focused on improving the quality of educational services provided English Language Learners. After completing the course sequence, Bank Street will recommend you for the Bilingual Extension to your current New York State classroom certification. If an applicant lacks Texas certification but has taught in another state, another country, a charter school, a private school, or a community college, conditional admission may be considered.

You can pursue bilingual education courses online, completing your course work when it’s convenient for you. It is estimated that between 60 and 75 percent of the world is bilingual, and bilingual education is a common educational approach used throughout the world.

While teaching in English-only programs also requires special training, there is a larger pool of candidates since proficiency in a non-English language is not necessary. Bilingual teaching methods vary, but the flexibility of the Cambridge approach means that learners can work towards a Cambridge qualification through the medium of English while also following their own national curriculum.bilingual education
